Psalms 95-99
The theme of these five short psalms is worship. The psalmist encourages all people to shout to the Lord and to give Him all the glory due His holy name. As believers we are to make sure that we do not hold back the praise and thanksgiving that is due the Lord. He is the Creator of the universe, the King of the universe, and He is blessing us every day. We should have so many reasons to worship the Lord continually.
Psalm 95 points out that if we harden our hearts to God, we will cease to worship Him, and we will not enter into His rest. That is a way of saying that we will not find the contentment of trusting God and allowing Him to meet our needs. God does not mean for us to be stressed from trying to do things ourselves all the time. He wants to fight for us and to provide for us, but we must trust Him to rest in Him.
Psalm 96 reminds us that Jesus is coming back and that we will face a time of judgment. That is another reason to worship God, the fear of God. He is holy. He is the Lord. We must honor Him as Lord, and we must realize that one day He will evaluate how we have done. Psalm 97 tells us to make sure that we not only love God, but that we hate evil. That is a great truth for all of us as we think about the Judgment. God deserves all of our worship because He is worthy in every way, and we are needy in every way. As we worship, we see Him clearly, and we see our hearts clearly. If you have trouble worshiping God, you have real trouble. That ought to be the most natural thing for His creation to do, and it ought to especially be the most wonderful thing His children can do.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 100-102.
