May 12 - Job 29-31
Job begins now to look back on the good times of his life. He remembers his family, and the other people he knew. He remembers the respect he had. Now, even the young men despise him. He has lost everything, and the people around him are mocking him, too. This is very hard for us to understand. Sometimes we go through difficult times, but none of us has gone through anything like Job did. Yet, Job continued to trust God. He was walking through grief. When anyone goes through that process they have questions, anger, and depression. We must turn to God for His grace and strength to get us through the grief. This is what Job was doing.
Before Job stops speaking, he makes one more point. He had lived his life as completely holy as he could. He had set his eyes away from evil. He had protected his heart from sinning with a woman. In every way he tried to follow God's word. This is a great testimony. How have you lived your life? Could you say what Job said? I hope that you will make that same kind of covenant with God. That is what Jesus called us to do. However, even if you do, that will not release you from suffering. It will just mean that God will be there with you.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 32-34.
