Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Many people do not understand waiting on the Lord. It is not like we think of waiting today. The word is filled with much more meaning. David knew the importance of waiting on the Lord. (Psalm 27:14) We need to learn from him and apply what we learn in our lives.

When we wait on the Lord, we are expecting Him to answer us. Waiting shows faith in the Lord, because we are confident He will come through at the right time. If we do not wait in this way, we are showing a great lack of faith, so God will not be able to answer our prayers and bless us. Also, when we wait on the Lord, we are hoping in the Lord. If our hope was not in the Lord, we would not wait, we would do it ourselves. He is our Only Hope, so we wait on Him.

When we wait, we do not give up. That is why David says to be of good courage. Courage is the ability to move forward, even in the face of danger or defeat. When we wait on the Lord, we are showing courage, not to back up, but to keep going for Him, so He strengthens our hearts.

Finally, when we wait on the Lord, we are showing obedience. This is a command. If we run ahead of God like Saul, that is disobedience. If we lag behind God, that is disobedience. When we wait on the Lord, we are ready to do what He says right when He says it, so we do not miss the opportunity to do His perfect will. God loves that type of waiting.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 29-32.
