Holding Grudges

If there is one thing that will cause a person to dry up spiritually, it is holding a grudge against another person. The sad thing is that the one holding the grudge thinks he is hurting the other person, when he is only hurting himself. Also, they may get a sense of satisfaction by disliking another person. What a sick way to think about people. God loves everyone, and He expects us to do the same. The Bible is clear that we can't really love God and hate other people. God is love.

I am so glad that one of the accountability questions in our On Mission Groups is about not holding grudges against people. It is something that a lot of Christians overlook, but it is so harmful. Why not kill them with love? Why not overwhelm them with kindness? What good is it to try to hurt someone or to wish them ill? I believe it shows a great amount of misunderstanding of God's nature.

The last thing we should want people to think about us is that we are holding a grudge against other people. It is a terrible witness. It drives people away from Christ, instead of drawing them to Him. One day each of us, as believers, will have to answer for every time we remained angry or upset with someone past sundown, and there will be no acceptable reason for it.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 44-46.
