Seeing through Lies and Deception
I am not a carpenter by any means. However, I have watched as a carpenter was building something. He would always have a measuring tape, a pencil, and a level to use to guide him in the right way. He always had to get the boards to be the right length, and when he nailed them together, he had to make sure they were level and square, or the building would not be sturdy and stable. We need the same type of things to make sure our lives are built in the right way to endure trouble and to be strong.
God told His people what He was going to do to them, after they had departed from Him to believe in idols and to do their own will. (Isaiah 28:17) "I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumbline of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away." I pray we will all let this verse cause us to take stock of what our lives are built upon before the Lord comes to test us.
A lie is anything that is not based on reality. It is anything that is not the truth. If we believe something that is not according to God's Word, we are believing a lie, and our life is very unstable. When the hailstorms of life come, we will be knocked down. We will not be able to stand up to them. We need to go to God and let Him show us His justice and righteousness. Then, we need to adjust what we believe and what we do to measure up to God's standard. That way we can put away any lies we have been believing and acting upon.
Also, we need to put away any deception from our life. It is possible to deceive ourselves. We can talk ourselves into basing our lives on an illusion that we have made up. Our refuge for our life could be a false security because it is based on self deception. Also, we can be deceiving other people about who we are. Then, when they see through the deception, our image comes crashing down. Therefore, we need to go to God's standard of righteousness and live by it. It will always lead us to live by truth and integrity, not by deception. Then, we can have a strong life.
