That All May Know

I am not trying to fool anyone with a trick question. I am very serious. I want each of us to think about what is the most important thing we can do in our life? What pursuit can have the greatest consequences, not just for us, but especially for other people? I know that gives us a lot to think about, but I believe it is a vital question for us to consider and to answer the right way, or we will miss our greatest purpose in life. That would be a terrible failure, seeing that each of us will stand before God to give an account of how we lived our lives.

King Hezekiah and the people in Jerusalem were in great danger from an attack by the king of Assyria, the most powerful country in the world at that time. They could all be killed, but Hezekiah wasn't just asking for God to spare him and the people of the city. (Isaiah 37:20) "Now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his power, then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that You alone, O Lord, are God." He was concerned about all the people in the world, and we should be, too. God is concerned about all of the people in the world.

If a person doesn't know about the One True God, he or she cannot put their faith in Him. If they do not hear about Jesus and receive Him as their personal Savior and Lord, they can't be forgiven of their sins and have eternal life. They are destined to spend eternity in hell. I know that may seem harsh and exclusive, but it is God's way of salvation, and it is the only fair way for people to receive forgiveness from our holy God. He gave Jesus to die for the sins of the world and to be raised from the dead to pay the penalty for sin, so He could forgive us and still be holy. People must hear and believe to be saved.

Therefore, the most important pursuit for each of us is how we can make Jesus known to everyone in the world. Of course, we can pray for them to come to hear the gospel. We can pray for God to send laborers into His harvest and help support them with our prayers and offerings. We can go to our neighbors, friends, and family with the Good News of Jesus. We can even do what Hezekiah did. We can pray that God will work miracles to show all people that He alone is God and Jesus is the Only Way to salvation. However, we must all do everything we can do, so that all may know. That was Jesus' final commission to us, as disciples, before He ascended back to heaven. We will be judged on how we did making disciples of all people groups.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 38-40.
