God's Way to Deliverance and Strength
We all want to have good success in the trials and tribulations of life. We want to overcome every obstacle and to be strong in the process. However, often we fail because we try to do life in our own way, in our own abilities without getting help from the Lord. We think we can do it on our own, but we end up with a lot of stress and discouragement. If we will just listen to the Lord and do things His way, we can eliminate all of that defeat and trouble.
Isaiah told the people of his day just what the Lord said for them to do instead of trusting in Egypt to save them from their enemies. (Isaiah 30:15) "This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel says, "Only in returning to Me and resting in Me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it." This verse should be a great encouragement to all of us, as believers.
God is waiting for us to return to Him and to rest in Him when we face the enemies and trials of life. We don't have to fight by ourselves. He is there to fight for us and with us. However, He will not force Himself on us when we try to do things the wrong way. He will wait for us to learn our lesson and return to Him. He will wait until we stop striving on our own and rest in His sovereign power and wisdom. Then, we will have the victory His way, and it will be complete victory.
If we don't think we can handle life, and if we don't think we are strong enough to face all of the stuff that comes at us, we are right, in a way. We can't do it without the Lord. However, when we get quiet and we put our confidence in Him we have His strength to do whatever might come. He can and will supply any need, if we rest quietly in Him. It is up to us. Israel wouldn't listen to the Lord in Isaiah's day. I pray we will all learn from their mistake and take God at His Word. Then, we will see what great things He can do for us.
