Love is Unquenchable
Most people don't really have a good grasp on the true meaning of love. Many think it is a feeling or an emotion that just happens to come at a certain time and for a certain person. Others simply think that it is a fleshly desire and a physical impulse to be with another person. It is true that we have feelings when we love another person, but the feelings come after the love. Love is a choice and a decision, and once it comes, it cannot be quenched.
That is what the Bible tells us, and it is always right. (Song of Solomon 8:7) "Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the flood waters drown it. If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised." Nothing more true has ever been said. It is just that we have to know the truth about love and how it comes to us. Then, we can love others with this unquenchable love.
God is love. All real love comes from Him. If we respond to His love and put our trust in Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, He becomes our life, and we are filled with God's Lord. His love is unconditional. It is boundless, and like it says in I Corinthians 13, it never ends. When we love our husband or wife with God's love, it will never be quenched, but we have to choose to love the other with that true love.
Even if a person is not a Christian, he or she can come to understand God's love, because of God revealing Himself to them. It isn't the same as a Christian having God's love, but it does enable them to love others deeply and well. That is the goodness of God to show us the truth, even before we come to know Jesus. He does that to draw us to faith, but some people just will never turn to the Lord. However, God loves everyone with that unquenchable love. He wants us to love Him and others with it, too.
