I am Lovesick
I have been sick with a lot of things. I have had bad colds, the flu, and pneumonia. I had the childhood diseases of mumps and chickenpox. I have had cancer and covid, too. I guess you could say that I have had my share of sickness. However, none of these things made me as sick as being lovesick. It is a whole different kind of sickness that attacks the heart and won't let you go until it is satisfied.
The Shulamite was already in bed one night when Solomon came to see her. She hesitated to get out of bed, and he departed without seeing her. Then, she went after him and asked the women of Jerusalem to help her. (Song of Solomon 5:8) She charged them that if they found her beloved they should tell him that she was lovesick. I believe that shows the depth of her love for Solomon, and we can learn from this.
When we love someone very deeply, we long to be with them. We love to talk with them for hours. We would rather be with them than anyone else in the world. Therefore, if we are not able to have that close relationship with them, we go into a kind of withdrawals. We are sick physically because our heart is hurting so much. I am sure we have all felt this in one way or another.
My question for all of us today is this, "Is Jesus your Beloved, and do you get lovesick when you are not staying close to Him?" We ought to be motivated and driven to pray by our great love for Jesus. The same should be true for our Bible reading, and serving the Lord. If we get away from Jesus, we should experience a bad case of lovesickness. If that doesn't happen, it signals something is wrong with our relationship with Him, and we need to renew our love for Him immediately.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 6-8.
