A Virtuous Wife

I wrote not too long ago about God giving a prudent wife as an inheritance from Proverbs 19:14. Now, we come to the end of the book of Proverbs, and I have to stop and share about a virtuous wife. I had a wife for over 50 years who was both prudent and virtuous. I pray that I was a prudent and virtuous husband for her. I believe God blessed our marriage and family because that was our sincere desire.

The Bible is clear that it is a challenge to find a virtuous wife. (Proverbs 31:1,31) However, once we have found the one God has for us, we have found someone whose worth is far above rubies. After all is said and done, what we need to do is to give to her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her for all to see. In the last couple of months since Chris went to be with the Lord, I have seen the truth in these verses before my eyes.

Everyone has been so good to pray for Chris and for me. I have received a huge number of cards, too. What has been so encouraging is that a high percentage of the cards have contained personal notes about things that Chris had said or done that were a blessing for them and/or their family. As I read through those messages, I thought about this passage and others in the Bible which say that it is our own works that will praise us. We don't need to manufacture anything ourselves.

So whether we are females or males, married or not, what will be the evidence that we have lived a virtuous life? What has been the fruit of our hands? What good works will we leave behind? I believe we all need to consider ourselves when we read these verses. We need to make every day count because we have followed the Lord's will, done what He has led us to do, and left behind the tracks of our influence here on this earth.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 3-5.
