When God Opens our Ears in Bed
When I was young, I would have a hard time sleeping because I had something on my mind, and I could not stop thinking about it. After I got older, God gave me His peace, so I sleep very soundly without problems almost all of the time. However, there have been several times when God woke me from my sleep and spoke to my heart about something that was going on. There was no doubt, it was His way of getting my ears to open to Him.
Job had experienced that as well. He shared this truth with us. (Job 33:15,16) He said that in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon us, while we are slumbering on our beds, then God opens our ears and seals our instruction. Yes, it could be a dream or a vision, as we see in the Bible, but it can be just God using our times of slumber to speak to us in the quiet of the night.
When I was pastor in Texas, we had a very serious situation in our church instigated by a member who was causing division. I prayed for God's wisdom and tried to follow what the Bible said to solve this problem. One night as I was sleeping, God woke me up, and He asked me a question, "How many days are there until the church meeting about this?" I counted in my head, and told him it was 40 days. God told me to fast for those 40 days, which I did, and He intervened, so His will was done.
When my Dad was on hospice in our home, I had a monitor to hear if he needed any help. He was quiet, but God woke me up. I got up from the bed this time, and God told me to write down a lot of the things about my Dad and my family. I wrote them in a spiral notebook as God brought things to my mind. After I finished I went to check on Dad in his room. He had gone to be with the Lord. What I wrote was what God wanted me to share at his funeral service. God is so good. He knows how to open our ears, if we will just listen.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 34-36.
