Confidence in Our Christian Walk

Confidence is very important. Mostly what we need is to have confidence in God. We need to trust Him and know that He can and will help us in any way we need Him. However, we do need a certain amount of confidence in ourselves.  Yes, I know that can be dangerous, because it can turn into pride which is very destructive. A good level of confidence in ourselves is very helpful, though. Let me explain.

Job had the right kind of confidence. That is why he could hold up against the criticisms coming from his friends. (Job 23:10,12) Job told his friends that God knew the way that he took in his life. He was confident that when he was tested he would come out as gold, being very pure. He knew that he had not departed from the words of God's mouth, but he treasured those words more than his necessary food. That is quite a testimony.

I pray that we all are being very honest with ourselves and with God. I pray that we know that our hearts are right with God, and we are not being hypocritical, saying one thing, but being a different way inside our heart. When we can honestly say that God knows our hearts are right, then we can know that He is pleased with us, and He will find us pure when we are tested by Him.

Job knew this because he was confident that he had not departed from the commandments of God. I pray we know the same thing, because we have treasured the words of the Lord, more than our physical food we eat. Yes, if we can truly say that feeding on God's Word is better than eating food, and it is more important to us than eating food, we can be confident that we are living in a way that God will find pleasing in the end when we stand before Him.
