Proper Priorities
It is so important for us to do things in the proper order. Like the old saying goes, "We must not get the cart before the horse." If we fail to have the right priorities, we will not accomplish our task well, or we will not get it done at all. So before we begin any project or set out to accomplish a long term goal, we have to decide to seek the Lord first. Then, He will show us how to do what we need to accomplish.
King David knew this to be the truth. He was concerned about Solomon his young and inexperienced son being able to build the temple as it should be built. Therefore, David instructed Solomon before he started the work. (I Chronicles 22:19a) He told him to set his heart and his soul to seek the Lord his God. This ought to be number one on our list all of the time.
Our heart is who we are as a person in the sense that it is our inner person as apposed to our body. I am afraid we put too much emphasis on our physical boy and appearance. Our heart is what is really important. We can eat well, exercise, and make ourselves very attractive physically, but we will fail miserably in life if we neglect our heart. The Bible tells us that the issues of life come from the heart. Therefore, we must seek God with all our heart and put Him first.
Then, we have to seek Him with our mind, will, and emotions. That is what makes up our soul. It is our personality, how we think, how we decide, and how we feel about things. We have to decide to seek the Lord with our mind by reading the Word and meditating on it to find the Lord in it. We have to seek the Lord by deciding to do what He tells us. Finally, we seek Him with our emotions when we do it out of love, not duty. When we do all of these things daily, God will show us how to accomplish His will for us.
