Fighting Against the Lord

I never had much of a problem with fighting when I was growing up. I am thankful for that. However, some of the boys were prone to fighting. They would pick on smaller boys and those who were not as strong. Seldom did they pick a fight with anyone bigger than themselves. That would not be very smart. The most unwise thing that anyone can do is to fight with Almighty God.

The people of God were fighting with each other. Israel had twice as many men in their army, but the army of Judah prevailed over them, because Israel was unfaithful to the Lord. (II Chronicles 13:12) King Abijah of Judah warned the king of Israel that God Himself was with Judah as their Head, and they had God's priests to sound the alarm against them. He warned them not to fight against the Lord, for they would not prosper.  That is exactly what happens any time anyone fights against the Lord.

Some of us fight against the Lord when we go directly against the commands and principles of His Word. We could be a believer who knows better, or it could be an unbeliever, but the effect is much the same. God is not going to let anyone go against His truth without putting up a defense to show them that what they are doing is wrong. That is why so many people, families, and churches are having such a hard time. They are fighting against God.

Then, there are those believers who are hearing the voice of God and maybe even feeling the call of God, but they are not listening, because they want to go their own way. They think their way is better than God's way, so they fight with God by running away. That never works either. Just like God caught up with Jonah, He catches up with everyone who is fighting against Him in that way, and they have to admit that God's way is best.
