Dying Because of Unfaithfulness

People die for all kinds of reasons. Some die from old age. They just go to sleep and never wake up. Others die from a disease or from an accident. I am sure we have all known of people who died from a complication from a surgery or a medication, while still others die from a drug overdose. However, there are also people who die because of their unfaithfulness to the Lord.

King Saul was one of those people. The Bible is very clear about this fact. (I Chronicles 10:13) Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. God had Saul killed in battle because he was a believer who was doing harm to God's people by his unfaithfulness.

This happened to many believers in the Bible and it continues to happen today. As believers, God saves us from our sins when we put our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Then, we are to live by the Word of God and follow the guidance of the Bible and the Holy Spirit. If we choose to go our own way, our sin can be very damaging to the cause of Christ, so sometimes God kills us to keep that from continuing to happen.

The story of Ananias and Saphira is  one such time. Their sin could have caused sin to enter the early church and disrupt the work of God at a crucial time, so he killed them for their unfaithfulness. The same is true for the believers in Corinth who were taking the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner. God killed them, too. I pray that we will not have that to happen to any of us, but we will keep God's Word and follow Him completely.
