Telling All Our Heart
When we speak to others, we have the freedom to say what we want to say. Sometimes we tell them a lot about ourselves. Other times, we hold back and only tell them a little. I would say that most of us are afraid to tell them the most important things that fill our hearts. We are afraid they will laugh at us or reject what we are telling them. Rarely do we tell all our heart to another person.
Samson had been holding back on Delilah when she asked for the source of his strength. However, he finally stopped telling her lies and told her the whole story. (Judges 16:18) When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent for the lords of the Philistines. She told them to come up once more because Samson had told her all his heart. So the lords came to Delilah and gave her money for reporting to them how to subdue Samson.
We do need to be careful with whom we share all our heart because we can be hurt by telling the wrong people. However, when we find a people who love us and who want to support us, it is so very helpful to tell them all our heart. Then, they know how to pray for us and how to hold us accountable. If we never share all our heart with others, we will miss out on having a close relationship with all of its benefits.
However, the main time we need to make sure that we tell all our heart is when we talk with the Lord. He knows our heart, everything that is in us and all we have gone through. If we pray to Him, but we hold back, and we are not fully honest with the Lord, He knows it. He can't fully bless us, because we don't trust Him and love Him enough to tell all our heart. So remember, let's be committed to telling all our heart to the Lord all of the time.
