Not Forsaken by God

Sometimes, we may feel like God doesn't care about us any more. We might have had some very bad things happen, and we can't understand why God would let them happen to us, if He really loved us. We could be tempted to feel forsaken by the Lord. We might think we are in a hopeless situation. However, that is never the case with the Lord.

I believe Naomi had felt all of those things, yet she was wrong. Ruth found the field of Boaz, a close relative to Naomi, and he let her glean in his field. She went home and told Naomi. (Ruth 2:20) Then Naomi said to her, "Blessed be he of the Lord, who has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead." She was overjoyed that God was being kind to them in allowing Ruth to find Boaz and having favor with him.

Naomi went from being bitter to praising the Lord for His kindness to her. We can learn from her situation so that we never become hopeless again. God is all-powerful and all-wise. He can work the circumstances of our life to bring a good outcome. Naomi's outcome was beyond anything she could have imagined. She ended up having a grandson after her sons had died. What joy this brought to her heart.

Then, that little boy grew up to be the grandfather of King David, the greatest king of God's people and the ancestor of Jesus, the Messiah. There could not have been a greater blessing for a Jewish lady than this. God turned her mourning into rejoicing, and now everyone knows the story of Naomi and Ruth. She was far from forsaken. God can and will do the same for us, as we faithfully follow Him.
