Bless the Lord!
I was reading something recently that really struck a cord with me. The essence of what it said was the closer we get to selfishness and pride in ourselves, the farther we get from Christianity. As believers, we need to constantly remember that we have been saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus, and we live each day by the same grace and faith. Without Jesus, we are nothing, and we can do nothing.
This truth should cause us to bless the Lord continually in the same way He commanded the children of Israel to bless Him when they came into the Promised land of Canaan. (Deuteronomy 8:10) God told them when they had eaten and were full, then they were to bless the Lord their God for the good land which He had given them. It would have been easy for them to want to take credit for conquering the land and having the all the food they needed, but it all came from God.
That is why we need to bless the Lord. God deserves all of the credit for all that we are able to do and all we accomplish. Jesus said it well when He told us that without Him we can do nothing. (John 15:5) Therefore, God is the One to receive the blessing from us, once we have been blessed by Him. We must not allow ourselves to become proud. Self-centeredness should not have any place in our hearts.
Just think of all of the ways that we can and should bless the Lord every day. When we wake up for a new day, we should thank Him and give Him praise for a new day. As we have food to eat that nourishes us and satisfies our hunger, we should be so grateful to God. We must bless the Lord when we have a place to live and clothing to wear. He is the One who provided it all for us by giving us the ability to work and make the money for these things. Bless the Lord!
