Our Daily Bread
We all need nourishment to live every day. Yes, we can fast, at times, so we can live without eating for certain periods of time. However, we still need energy on those days. God knows that. He created us. He knows that we need sustenance, and he is ready to provide what we need every day. However, He makes this a part of our relationship with Him. Let me explain.
The children of Israel had a huge need. They needed enough food for 2 million people every day. That was impossible for them, so they complained. God heard their complaints and sent manna. (Exodus 16:35) They ate manna for forty years, until they came to the border of the inhabited land of Canaan. God sent it every day, except on the Sabbath, and then, he made the sixth day's portion last for two days. They had to trust Him in the process.
Jesus showed us in His model prayer for us that we should ask God to give us "this day our daily bread." That means He wants us to pray for the Father to meet our needs every day. That would require us to pray to the Lord every day. It would lead us to share our needs with Him every day, so we will be talking with Him about our lives every day. See what I mean about building a relationship through the daily bread?
Every day the children of Israel went out to gather the manna they had to know it came from God. It was a miracle that appeared after the dew was gone. Every day we should realize that what we have is a miracle from the grace of God to us. Everything we have comes from Him, and without Him we couldn't provide for ourselves. He gives us energy, ability, and wisdom to do what we do, so we should know we are fully dependent on Him when receive what we have. We should thank Him for all of this all the time.
