A Helper Suitable for Him

 Speaking for myself and from my experience, I am afraid we, as men, resist getting help for a lot of things. We tend to be pretty proud and strong-willed. When we do ask for help or get help, it is very important for us to have a helper who works with us in a way that suits our personality and needs. That is how God designed marriage to work, but many people do not realize this important truth.

The Lord gave us this truth in the very beginning of mankind. (Revelation 2:20) Adam gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of the sky and to every animal of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable to him. That is when God made Eve from Adam's rib and brought them together in the marriage relationship.

Marriage is not just a relationship to meet our physical needs. It is not just a financial relationship, so that we have income from 2 people instead of just one person. It is definitely not a relationship to have someone just to bring us pleasure. It is a relationship of cooperation to learn from each other and to have the full life God has for us.

Since each of us are different, we need a specific type of person to complete us. That person is a helper suitable for us, for who we were created to be. When we find that person, and we work together in love, we become more and more like Jesus by learning what our mate can teach us. Therefore, we have to be humble and teachable to learn. Then, we can have an abundant life together.
