Turn Away from Idols

As Christians, we do not worship idols. We worship the One True God, who has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son, and Spirit, the Trinity. He told Moses to command us not to make any graven images to worship, so we know that the religions of the world who worship such images are not engaging in true worship of God. They are manmade idols that represent false gods. However, that doesn't mean that we, as God's people, don't have other types of idols in our lives. God forbids us to worship any kind of idol, since it takes us away from our singular worship of Him. (Ezekiel 14:6) Therefore, He told Israel to repent and turn away from their idols. They were to turn their faces from all of their detestable things. If we want to have a close walk with the Lord today, we must do the same thing.

Repentance is a change of mind that leads to a change of behavior. When we repent, we realize that something is not good for us, so we decide to turn away from it and to start doing something different. Most often we repent of sins which the Holy Spirit shows us. We confess that those sins are harmful for us, and we begin to do the opposite in our life. (I John 1:9) Also, we should repent of things in our lives that may not be sins, but those things are taking us away from focusing on God. Those are the idols in our life. Anything on which we decide to spend our time and money that takes us away from the spending the right amount of time and money on the Lord is an idol. I pray we will all stop and ask the Spirit to show us any sins and idols in our life, so we can repent and have a very satisfying relationship with the Lord, instead of allowing anything to get in the way.
