God's Sovereignty
God is the Lord of all. He is King of the universe. We say we know this reality, but do we really live by that reality? Do we have confidence that whatever God chooses will happen? Do we know whatever He says He will surely do it. I believe when we get to that place in our life where we have that confidence in the Lord, it will change our life for the better. The people of God in Ezekiel's day did not have that confidence, so God gave them a parable about trees. The trees represented the leaders of His people and His people. (Ezekiel 17:24) God was showing them that He was the Lord. He assured them He could bring down the tall tree. and He could make the low tree tall. He could cause the green tree to wither and the withered tree to thrive. He was the Lord and what He said, He would do. There is no reason to ever question the sovereignty of God over our country and our own lives.
If we are "tall trees," we might be feeling pretty good about ourselves right now. We might feel like we are head and shoulders above those who are around us. We could even get to feeling invincible. However, that is never the right way to think and feel. God can bring us down at any moment. The opposite is true, too. We might be a "low tree" now, but God can raise us up to be a tall tree. Either way, God is trying to show us, we must depend on Him daily, because we never know what will happen. We must remain humble, no matter what happens. We could be thriving one minute and withering the next. See what I mean? Yes, we need to be responsible. We need to concentrate on living holy lives, so that we will submit to the Lord and be used by Him. We must never think more of ourselves that we ought, and then, God can and will use us in His sovereign plan for the universe. I pray that is what we all want to see happen.
