Wisdom and Understanding
It seems that we have to come back time and again to be reminded about what is true wisdom and how we get understanding. The reason for this is that without wisdom we make a mess of our lives. If we go by the wisdom of this world, it leads us into all types of falsehood and errors that cause us much stress and hurt. If we go by how others understanding things, we make mistake after mistake until we are depressed over our situation in life. Therefore, we need to read Job 28 and let it sink in well. What Job said is that wisdom can't be found by searching anywhere in this world. It has to come from searching for God and finding Him. Then, He gives us His wisdom and understanding. (Job 28:28) Therefore, the bottom line is that the fear of the Lord is wisdom and to turn from evil is understanding. Let's digest this for a minute.
When we find he Lord, and we know Him, we realize that His power, love, and wisdom far surpass anything that comes from us, His creation. He is the Creator. We can't compare to Him in any way. At that point we decide to fear the Lord in everything we do. That means we respect Him, we honor Him, and we do all that we do with a fear for what will happen to us, if we do not do what He tells us to do. That is wisdom, having that fear of the Lord. Then, when we begin to live that way, we know that we must turn from any kind of evil, any kind of sin. If we allow evil of any kind into our minds, our hearts, and our lives, it brings destruction. The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23a) So when we make the decision to turn from evil, we have understanding that will lead us in the right way. See what Job is talking about? It is not rocket science. It is fully submitting to the Holy God, following Him closely every day, and turning away from all evil. Then, we have wisdom and understanding.
