God's Revelation of Himself to Us
God is always in the business of revealing Himself to us in many ways. When we look at His creation, He shows us His power and His wisdom. We are sure that He exists and that He loves us so much because of how He created our universe and our own bodies. God can speak to our hearts to reveal Himself in any way He desires, and He does that all of the time. Sometimes we miss those revelations because we are not listening, but do not doubt that God is speaking. God does all of this because He wants a personal relationship with each of us. He knows us, and He wants us to know Him and to interact with Him on a daily basis. Once we come to know Him by grace through faith, He gives us even more insights into His character and His plans for this world. Job received some amazing revelations from God. (Job 19:25,26) He was confident that His Redeemer was alive.(Job knew this some 2,000 years before Jesus and before any of the Bible was written. He knew that His Redeemer would stand on the dust, the earth. Job was even assured that if his skin was destroyed, he would receive a new body and see the Lord. Job had been listening to God, and these revelations gave Him great strength to fight on through his pain.
Today, God is still revealing Himself to us, and we have two special ways God is communicating with us. First of all, we have the entire inspired Word of God, the 66 books of the Bible. God has not only led men to write it all down for our instruction, He has preserved it for us through the last 2,000 years. Now, we can read the wonderful words of God, so we can know so many things that we need to know to live the Christian life well and to help others come to know Jesus. (II Timothy 3:16,17) Also, every one of us, as believers, have the Holy Spirit in us. He is with us to lead us into all truth. We can know the things of the Lord even without a teacher to guide us, because He is our Teacher. (I John 2:27) When we put those two things together and add them to God's general revelation to us, we have more than enough. (Romans 1:18-20) God never adds to His Word or takes from it, so neither should we. We should study His Word, let the Spirit teach it to us, and live it out in hope every day.
