A Sling and a Stone, but no Sword
I believe that most of us are familiar with the account of what happened when David defeated the giant, Goliath. To this day the word "goliath" means something or someone that is very immense. The Philistine Goliath was 9 feet 9 inches tall. He was very strong and a mighty warrior. None of the Israelites would dare to challenge him in combat. They were all terrified. Then, the young teenager David showed up to check on his older brothers who were in the army. David ended up defeating Goliath by himself when no one else would even try. How did this happen? (I Samuel 17:50) David defeated the Philistine warrior Goliath with a sling and a stone. David overpowered him and killed him without a sword. I believe there is a great principle here for all believers today.
How often do we give up without even trying to do something difficult? We talk ourselves out of meeting the challenge, because we think we are not equipped to overcome the obstacle before us. That is never true for any believer, if God desires for us to win the victory, because it is His will for us. Just consider the victories that we have already won in our everyday lives. How did we win those? We used the weapons we had in our own hands. We used what we had at our disposal, just like David was able to kill the lion and the bear with his hands and his sling. The truth is that we do not need extra weapons or ability. We just need the Lord's wisdom and power, along with our own weapons and ability. God will give us the victory as we trust Him and do His will. No giant is too big for us and God. When we use our regular weapons and ability, God gets all of the glory. That is always how it should be. Therefore, let's never give up and not try to overcome our giants. Let's win without a sword, just a sling and a stone.
