A Changed Heart
Our heart is who we are as a person. It is the deepest part of us. If our heart is flawed, we will have all sorts of problems. If our heart is healthy and pure, we will have a good life. The problem is that we can't really change our heart. Yes, we can reform it in some minor ways, but that is not nearly enough to have a complete renewal. The only one who can change our heart is the Lord. We see that in the life of King Saul. Before he became the first king of Israel, he met with Samuel, the prophet. Samuel anointed him to be the king, and he told him signs that would happen to prove he was God's choice to be the king of His people. (I Samuel 10:9) After their meeting, Saul turned to leave Samuel. When he did, God changed his heart. Then, all of the signs came about that same day. We all need to experience a genuine heart change like what God did for Saul.
Sin corrupts us to the very core of our being. It separates us from God, and it leads us farther and farther from His will. If we do not listen to the still, small voice of God's Spirit speaking to us, we will be forever without hope. If we do listen to the Lord, He will show us that we need to turn from our sins, put our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, so that He is Lord of our life from now on. Once that faith is expressed, and God sees our sincerity, He forgives our sins, adopts us into His family, and changes our heart. The Holy Spirit comes to live in us, and we are a new person from the inside out. It is not that we are perfect automatically, but since God changes our heart, we have the desire to be like Jesus. The Spirit gives us the grace to make the changes in our life by His power, and we become more and more like Jesus. All of that happens, once God changes our heart. I pray we will all experience that transformation in our lives.
