Remembering God's Help
Sometimes we have a short memory. We tend to move on and forget what happened in our lives at significant times. This is a huge problem that leads us away from humility and into pride, if we don't watch out. We can begin to take credit for things that God has done for us. Then, He does not receive the glory He deserves. Let's face it, we can't do anything without the help of the Lord. Samuel knew this. (I Samuel 7:12) That is why he took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, after God gave Israel a great victory over the Philistines. He named it Ebenezer. He explained to everyone that Ebenezer meant "The Lord has helped us to this point." That way they would remember what God had done and glorify Him when they saw this stone.
I believe we need to do the same thing in our lives today. We need to put down spiritual markers in our lives to show us and others when God really came to our aid at different times. This will cause us not to forget God's assistance, but it will also show us where God is leading us. These markers will show how God has enabled us and led us each step of the way until we have reached the point where are are now. When we put them all together, it will give us insights into what He wants us to do next, also. Therefore, just as Henry Blackaby has pointed out, we must not forget to put down spiritual markers and then take time to review them periodically. If you don't do this or you haven't done it in a while, I would urge you to decide to take time to do it now. It will be a blessing for the rest of your life.
