The Lord Will Provide
Abraham was a man of great faith in the Lord. When God tested his faith by asking him to offer the son of promise, Isaac, as a burnt offering, Abraham did not question God. He set out to do what God told him the next morning. It must have been hard thinking about what was going to happen, but Abraham believed that God would raise Isaac from the dead if necessary to fulfill His promises through him. He told his servants when he and Isaac left them to go to the mountain, "We will return." That is great faith. God honored that faith and just before Abraham killed his son, God told him to stop. Then, Abraham saw a ram with its horns caught in a thicket. (Genesis 22:13,14) He took the ram and offered it in place of his son. Then, he named the place, The Lord Will Provide. The people even said after that time, "It will be provided on the Lord's mountain." I pray we have all learned to trust God to provide for us just at the right moment and in the right way. He is always faithful.
Not only did God provide a ram for Abraham to sacrifice on Mount Moriah. He provided His Only-Begotten Son to be the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Yes, in the exact same place that God sent Abraham with His son, God sent Jesus to die for our sins. In that case, God did not allow a substitute. Jesus was the Only One who could die for all of the sins of the world. His blood was the only payment that would redeem us from our sins and pay the sin debt we all owed. God was faithful to provide for Abraham on the Lord's mountain, and He was faithful to provide for us on the Lord's mountain. What a wonderful God we serve! I pray that we all will praise the Lord for being Our Provider and thank Him for giving His for our salvation.
