Getting Too Close To Sin
As Christians. we all have a choice about how we will live our life. There are basically two options. We can choose to live as close to sin as possible without sinning, or we can choose to live as far away from sin as possible. If we allow ourselves to get too close to sin, eventually, we will be overcome by the temptation and succumb to it. That is a recipe for disaster. Lot is a prime example. God greatly blessed Lot and his family, as he journeyed with Abram in Canaan. In fact, God gave both of them so many livestock that they could not live together without problems any more. (Genesis 13:12,13) When they separated, Abram gave Lot his choice of where to live. Lot chose the plain of the Jordan river, and he pitched his tent near Sodom, even though the men of Sodom were known to be evil and to sin immensely against the Lord. This decision led to eventual downfall of Lot and his family. We need to learn from his example.
We can be saved and know what is right and wrong, but still make wrong choices, if we are not very careful. The world will tempt us with wealth and all kinds of pleasures. If we decide to get close to the sin in this world, it will become more and more influential in our lives, until we give in and practice those sins. Once we sin a little, if there is such a thing, we only start slipping farther and farther from the Lord. Remember, every day we are either getting closer to the Lord or we are drifting farther from Him. We cannot stay in the same place spiritually. We are either growing or falling back. That is why we must decide to stay as far away from sin as we possibly can. The Bible tells us to flee temptation, not to draw near to it. If we stay away from sin, we will find it easier and easier to resist temptation, because we will be drawing closer and closer to the Lord each day. That is why I say, we must not do what Lot did, if we want to live the victorious Christian life and be more than conquerors through Christ. I pray all of us will choose this road in life, instead of the road of compromising with sin.
