Afterward, Receive Me to Glory
Heaven is the final dwelling place for all of us who know Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. That is a very comforting reality for us to know that God will receive us to glory. The psalmist knew this and rejoiced in it. (Psalm 73:24,25) However, he also knew that there was a lot of our eternal life that is lived before we are received to glory. During those days, we need to allow God to guide us with His counsel, as we seek to live for Him all of our days. Yes, we can long for heaven and long to be with the Lord. That is what we need to do. Until then, we need to desire nothing on this earth besides God. If we will live like that we will live an abundant, eternal life with Christ.
I wonder how much we really rely on the counsel of God every day? Please, remember that is God's way of directing us through the mountains and valleys of life, until we reach our destination of heaven. I also wonder why most of us want to go to heaven? I pray we do not just want to live in a perfect place for eternity. I hope we are not counting on being there with family members and friends, more than we are wanting to be there with the Lord. If Jesus is not the focus of why we long for heaven, we are missing out on the real glory of heaven. The greatest part will be worshiping the One who died and arose for our redemption face to face. Therefore, we must keep that desire in our hearts every day, so that we desire nothing on earth besides Him, too. I remember how my maternal grandmother prayed. She lifted up praises to God and our needs. She asked God to bless us and the food He provided for us each time we ate together. Then, she always closed the prayer by saying, "and at last save us in heaven." That is what the psalmist is saying we must do. We must set our eyes on the Lord alone, living by His counsel daily, and waiting for Him to receive us to glory.
