Servant Leadership
David was the greatest king of Israel. He was a fierce warrior. He was a strong man. When it came to being a leader, he was a servant leader. He led by example, and he did not ask the people to do what he would not do himself. He learned his leadership style from his time as a shepherd. God took David from the sheepfolds, and he shepherded His people. (Psalm 78:70, 72) He shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and he guided them with his skillful hands. We need more leaders like David in our homes, in our churches, and in our country Let's consider these verses, and see how they are vital to understanding God's kind of leadership.
David was God's servant. He was not the CEO, God was. David did what God led him to do, and He did it God's way. He prayed before he acted, and God was happy to direct him. A shepherd cares for the sheep first, then himself. The main focus is on protecting the sheep and making sure they are doing well. That is what David did for God's people, and that is what good leaders do today. Servant leaders are guided by the integrity of their hearts. They tell the truth. They do what they say they will do. They practice what they preach. Also, a good leader is skillful, having the right skills and talents to work with people, to be encouraging, and to get people motivated to do the right things. Like I said, that is the kind of leaders we need today. Let's pray for God to call them out for us, as He called David to lead Israel.
