Generosity to Poor Brothers
The Bible is very clear that we are to care for the poor in our midst. The Old Testament commanded the people to allow gleaning in their fields, and it allowed the poor to eat from other people's fruit trees. God cares for the poor, and He wants us to care for them, too. However, God has a special command when it comes to "brothers." When a member of the tribes of Israel had a need, He commanded that the people who knew about that need should generously give to bless that person in their need. (Deuteronomy 15:7,10) In fact, God told them that if they gave generously and without a grieving heart, He would bless all their work and their undertakings. This shows God's heart and His desire for true unity among the brothers and sisters in the Lord.
Today, our spiritual brothers and sisters are other Christians and specifically those whom we know well in our own church family. Just like the early church shared all they had with the other believers, so that no one lacked anything, we ought to do that today.(Acts 4:32-35) I believe the Lord will bless us in our work and undertakings if we will do this willingly and with a cheerful heart. There are some Christians who are independent and self-reliant who will not let others bless them in this way. I believe they are thwarting God's will and robbing their brothers and sisters of a great blessing from God. Therefore, I would encourage all Christians to allow other believers to bless them in their time of need, since this is God's plan for all of us to be blessed in a great way.
