A Two Pronged Approach
Many times we have to have a two pronged approach to doing God's will for our lives. Life is complicated, and Satan is smart. Therefore, we must make sure we address both the temptations of life and the need to love the Lord fully. That is why God told Moses to present a two pronged approach as the people were about to enter of Canaan. (Deuteronomy 12:2,5) God made it perfectly clear that the first step was to destroy every place of worship set aside by the people of the land of Canaan, where they worshiped their pagan gods. They must be thorough and destroy them from the high mountains, the hills, and those under every green tree until all of the vestiges of paganism were wiped out and would not be a temptation. Then, they were to follow the Lord's direction and set aside one place to worship Him. It would be the place He chose for His name to dwell. They were to come there and seek the Lord in worship there as He directed them. This plan is very wise.
As Christians, it is not enough for us to decide to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, and mind. Yes, that is the greatest commandment, and it where we must start. We must also decide to hate evil as completely as we love the Lord. We must turn from anything that would lead us to idols or lead us away from the Lord. If we don't Satan will use it to get us away from God. Then, we must worship the Lord Jesus Christ only in Spirit and in truth. If we take this two pronged approach, we will see the blessings of the Lord, and we will remain faithful to Him and growing in our faith, as long we live in this world. Also, the Day of Judgment will go much better for us, as we have been completely obedient to the Lord.
