Do Not Be Afraid or Tremble
When we face a huge challenge or go out against an enemy who would harm us, it is vital for us to trust the Lord if we will have victory. I know we would love to be able to pray and have God remove the challenge or the enemy, but often, He doesn't choose to do it that way. God wants to show us how He honors our faith in Him. Therefore, we have to go into the situation without being afraid and trembling. (Deuteronomy 31:6) This is an act of faith. Our actions show our real faith in God to deliver us. That is why God told Moses to command the people to be strong and courageous, not being afraid or trembling, as they entered the land of Canaan. They were to remember that it was God would would go with them. He would never fail them or forsake them as they trusted Him. This is so important for us, too.
James chapter 2 makes it very clear that faith without works is dead. It is not faith at all, if we don't see our faith issue forth in actions. Faith is not just believing something in our heart. It is trusting the Lord enough to do what He says. When we are told to be strong and courageous, that is what we must decide to do. It is a choice, and we choose to be strong and courageous based on our faith in God and His goodness. When we decide not to be afraid or tremble, that is also based on our belief that God will not fail us or forsake us in any situation which He allows into our lives. Then, when we exercise our faith, it gets stronger, so that the next time, we will find it even easier to trust the Lord in difficult times.
