Treasure Hidden in a Field
Many of Jesus' parables focused on the Kingdom of God. He wanted people to know the importance of being a part of God's Kingdom and how to be a part of it. Since it was a new concept to the people, it took a while to grasp, but there were a lot of people who did enter the Kingdom of God by trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior. In explaining the Kingdom Jesus said it was like a treasure hidden in a field and left there for years. Then, a person comes along and finds it. (Matthew 13:44) Of course, that person is ecstatic to find such a valuable treasure, so he goes, sells everything he owns to raise money and buys the field. Hence, he becomes the owner of the treasure. I pray we all see exactly what Jesus was saying, so we can be a part of the Kingdom.
Salvation is the greatest treasure anyone can ever have. People look for it in a lot of places, but relatively few people find it. They miss it because of pride, hard hearts, or just apathy. However, when any of us come upon the treasure of salvation, we realize it is worth all we have and all we are, so we are willing to give all of that to the Lord in exchange for this treasure. We know that if we have that, we have all we need for eternity. The emphasis is that it takes all we are and all we have to receive it. Why is that? Jesus gave His all for us, dying on the cross for our sins. Now, we owe Him our all. When He sees that we willingly give ourselves to Him completely, He makes us a part of His Kingdom forever.
