The Greatness of God
There are many things that make God great. Of course, He is All-wise and All-powerful, Creator of all that exists. He is love, and His love is beyond any human love. He is gracious and merciful to us, because of His nature being love. However, He is perfectly holy, too. He is always does what is right and never does what is wrong. The psalmist let us know one more aspect of God that makes Him great. In fact, it could be the one thing that shows His greatness more than anything else. (Psalm 135:5-7) Let's see what he was inspired to reveal to us about our Lord.
People want to do just as we please, but we are not able to do that very much at all. We either lack ability, money, time, or power to do what we would really like to do. That shows our finite nature and our limited control over our lives. What makes God so great, and places Him high above all gods and all people, is that He does just as He pleases, however, wherever, and whenever. There is no limit on what God does. Nothing outside of God is able to limit Him, and He has no personal limitations like we do. Just take the weather as an example. God created the elements of the world in such a way that the water vapor makes clouds, which produce, thunder, lightening, and rain. The rain pours down to form rivers and oceans, and all of these conditions produce the winds that sweep across all of the land and seas. Is there any human who could have done that? No, of course, not. God is the greatest, and we should bow in humble submission to the Lord who does just as He pleases.
