The Results of Having No Authority

The period of the judges was a very bad time in the history of God's people. The people were rebellious and unfaithful so that they kept departing from the Lord each time a judge died. Since there was no king yet, things just became worse and worse. It is almost inconceivable that the events at the end of the book of Judges would happen in Israel. However, they did happen. They were the result of having no king, no authority over the people, so everyone did whatever they felt like doing. (Judges 17:6) This produced many tragic consequences, which we see happening all around us today, too.

We do not have a king in the USA, we are a democratic republic. The problem of lack of authority does not come from the government here. Our lack of authority comes from not having a belief in God and His absolute authority over mankind and the world. When there are no absolutes in morals, people end up doing whatever they feel like doing. That is what is destroying our families, our communities, and our country. It is very depressing to read the news, because we are getting farther and farther from God's standard every day. We need the right authority, like Israel needed the right king. I urge you to join with me in praying for our country to experience a great revival among God's people and an awakening for the non-Christians, so that we see our country turn back to God, His Word, and His absolute authority. That is our only hope for survival as a nation.
