A Parent's Wise Prayer
Samson is one of the most famous people in the Bible. He was a judge for Israel, even though he was not very conventional. Samson had a special birth. The angel of God appeared to his mother and told her that she would have a son, even though she had been barren. He explained that this child was to be raised a Nazarite from the time he was born. That was a special vow that God's people took to show God their trust in Him. It involved not eating or drinking anything from grapes and not cutting his hair. When Manoah's wife told him about her encounter, he stopped to pray to God. He asked God to send the "man" or angel back to teach them how to raise their son. (Judges 13:8) That was a very wise prayer that shows all of us, as parents, a great lesson.
Every parent of a firstborn child is a rookie. None of us has any experience being a parent when we are first blessed with a baby. However, that is no excuse for not being a good parent, if we know the Lord. We only need to ask, and God will show us just what to do. A lot of people read parenting books. That can be good, but reading the Bible is the best. God wants us to raise our child according to His will and in His way. As we pray, God is able to give us direction by His Spirit that is very personal and precise for our family. This is absolutely necessary, since we are all unique and every child is unique. Then, when we pray, read the Word, and follow the Spirit, we need to obey all God shows us, just like Manoah and his wife did. As we do that, God can mold our child and use our child to do great things for the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 14-16.
