Complete Obedience

The People of Israel enjoyed great success in their campaigns against the people of Canaan. This success was not because of their military might. It was a result of complete obedience to God's commands. Moses was God's servant, and he heard the commands of God loud and clear. Then, he passed on those commands to Joshua, who was chosen by God to take over when Moses died. Joshua was new at leading, but he didn't leave anything incomplete that Moses had commanded him. (Joshua 11:15)  That complete obedience was the key to the success of Israel in Canaan, and it is the key to our success today.

God gives us commands, because He knows the best way to do things, and He knows us so well, too. Therefore, when God gives a command, we should obey it completely and immediately. If we stop to consider His commands from the perspective of our own logic and experience, we might be tempted to argue with God. We might want Him to explain "why." Sometimes God tells us why He commands us to do something, but He is under no obligation to do so. He is Lord, and we are His servants. Therefore, the only proper response to God's commands is "Yes, Lord." If we will learn this lesson from Joshua, it will make our lives so much better, because God will be able to pour out His blessings on us, while He fights for us against our enemies. If we try to do things ourselves, we will mess it all up, and live in defeat.
