A Life Blessed by God
Moses had a remarkable life. He was saved from death at birth by the faith of His parents. He was raised in the house of Pharaoh, King of Egypt, the most powerful nation in the world at that time. He escaped from Egypt after killing an Egyptian for mistreating one of his people. Then, at age 40 he kept the sheep of his father-in-law in the dessert around Sinai. Finally, at 80 years of age Moses was called by God to return to Egypt as God's deliverer to lead the People of Israel out of slavery. He was successful, and He led the people well for 40 more years with only one serious sin. At 120 years old his eyesight was sharp, and he still had a spring in his step. He was well respected by his people who mourned for him 30 days before going on under the leadership of Joshua. (Deuteronomy 34:7,8) I believe we can see the elements of a life blessed by God in Moses' life. Let's see what we can learn.
When God is directing our life, there is no age when we have to retire from serving Him. God is able to keep us sharp and healthy, so we can be His instruments. This is a great blessing. Also, when we make a mistake and commit a grievous sin, like Moses did twice, God is merciful. If we are faithful and repentant, He still uses us in a powerful way, until it is our time to be with Him in Heaven. That is a huge blessing. Finally, we know we are blessed when people weep for us when we die. That is a sign we have been used by God to love well and to minister to others in a meaningful way. Of course, we won't see their weeping, but we will receive the rewards God has for us laid up in Heaven. What a blessed life! How is your life?
