Encountering God

Once Jacob had tricked his father into giving him the blessing of the firstborn, Esau was ready to kill him. Therefore, Isaac and Rebekah sent Jacob back to Haran to take a wife from Rebekah's brother, Laban's, family. On the way Jacob stopped for the night. He had an encounter with God in a dream, seeing the ladder to heaven with angels going up and down. When he awoke, He was filled with awe at his encounter with God. (Genesis 28:16,17) God wants to reveal Himself to all of us, so we can all have such an encounter with Him.

God wants a close personal relationship with each of us. Of course, it begins by trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Then, He wants us to grow to know Him better and better. One way we do that is to encounter God in our personal times with Him or in our corporate worship. When we do, we are terrified of His power and might. We are in awe of how incredible He is. We see Him in all of His wonder and His holiness. We know that He is with us. We can look back on that place and that encounter as a spiritual marker in our relationship Him. I pray that all of us have had encounters with God like this. If not, I pray we will seek Him, because He desires for us to see Him clearly and know Him better.
