A Faith Relationship with God

Abram believed God when he asked him to leave his country and family to go to a new land. However, after eleven years of being in the new land, he still did not have a son. God came to Abram to encourage him to keep believing God's promises. He showed him the stars and asked him to count them if he could. That was God's way of showing Abram how many descendants he would have, a huge family, more than he could imagine. Abram continued to believe God after this, because his relationship with God was based on faith in God  and following God. That is why God declared Abram "Set Right-with-God." (Genesis 15:5,6) We must have that type of faith relationship with God to be right with God.

Salvation does not come when we believe that God can forgive our sins. Salvation comes when we believe God. Period. We are set right with God when we see our sins, and we turn away from those sins and our way of doing life, so that we trust the Lord and follow Him in faith every day. That is what faith in God is all about. Abram had that type of faith in God. God used his faith as an example of what we must have, too.(Romans 4:3) Since Jesus is the full manifestation of God, who came and gave His life for us to be forgiven of our sins, we must put our faith in Jesus. It takes following him daily, not turning back or looking back.(Luke 9:62) Abram was not perfect because of his faith. He failed, and we fail. However, if we have a faith relationship with Jesus, we will confess our sins and get back to following Him. That's what happens when we believe God, and He declares us "Set Right-with God."
