Spiritual Insincerity

It is very important for us to say what we mean and mean what we say. This is especially true when it comes to our dealings with the Lord. He can see our heart, so He knows if we are being sincere with Him when we ask Him for things or when we make commitments to Him. If we are not sincere with God, He can get very angry with us. That is what happened to the people left in Israel after the fall of Jerusalem. They came to Jeremiah asking him to pray for God's guidance as to whether they should stay in the land or go to Egypt. They were insincere in this request. They had already decided to go to Egypt. They were just hoping God would tell Jeremiah to instruct them to do that. (Jeremiah 42:20,21) Therefore, when God said to stay in the land, they did not listen to the Lord. They went their own way. I pray that we will not do this, but we will learn from this example.

When we pray, do we really want to know God's will, or do we want Him to agree with us? If we are wise, we will sincerely ask the Lord to guide us, and we will commit from the moment we pray to do just what God says. This should be true no matter what He tells us. We should act with no hesitation and in complete obedience. Also, when we hear a sermon or a Bible message, we should ask God to speak to our hearts to know the meaning of His Word and how we should act upon it. We should not listen, looking for loop holes of how we can get out of doing what the Word says, so we can do our own will. Sincerity in seeking the Lord is a must. Therefore, I pray we will truly die to ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow the Lord, no matter where He leads us. (Luke 9:23) That is the way to the abundant life of God's blessings.
