Jesus Was Punished for Our Sins
"It is not fair." Have you ever heard that from a child or a teenager? I know we are all concerned with things being done fairly, but they seem to focus on it a lot. We are so worried that we will not get what we deserve or that someone else will get more than we do. However, there is one thing that happened that was definitely not fair, but we should all be very grateful for it. Jesus was punished for our sins. (Isaiah 53:6) I hope you have reflected on this truth. That is what we are going to do for a few minutes today.
Jesus was the sinless Son of God. He never sinned in any way. He did not deserve any punishment for sins. However, He knew that all of us had gone astray like dumb sheep. We have all turned to our way, instead of the right way, His way. This shows our selfishness and pride, because He made sure we knew in our heart we should trust Him and follow Him. (Romans 1:18-20) Even though we had a choice to follow Him or not, and we chose to go our own way, He loved us so much that He took our punishment that we deserved for our sins. When He went to the cross, the Father took out all of His anger against all of the sins of the world on His precious Son. All of this was unfair for Jesus, but it was the only way for us to be forgiven of our sins. We could not pay for them, but His precious, sinless blood was the only payment God would accept. Therefore, Jesus took our punishment, and died in our place, so we might have life, and God would be just in forgiving us. What a blessing! It wasn't fair, but it was an act of love and grace. I pray that we will all confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior, who took our punishment, so we can be changed and have eternal life.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 54-56.
