Two Shares of Your Spirit

Elisha followed Elijah closely because the Lord had shown him that his mentor would be taken up to heaven that day. He did not know just what would happen, but he did not want to miss being with him at that moment. As they approached the Jordan river, Elijah took his prophet's mantle off and used it to strike the water. Suddenly, the water parted, and they crossed on dry ground. That was only one tiny example of the power Elijah possessed. As they walked together for the last time on earth, Elijah asked what he could do for Elisha before he was taken. That was not a hard question for Elisha to answer. He requested two shares of his spirit. (II Kings 2:9) He had seen his spirit up close, and he knew the great things his spirit had enabled him to accomplish by God's power, and Elisha wanted to do even more. I am glad to say that the Lord fulfilled his request as Elijah was taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot.

What do you desire to accomplish with your life? What kind of spirit do you have? Is your spirit mold-able,  so that the Holy Spirit can guide you and use you to do God's will in great ways? Yes, the Holy Spirit is God's gift to us at salvation. However, our spirit is what God gives us at conception. It is our spirit that enables us to connect with God spiritually, so that we hear Him, and we can follow Him. I pray that we will have a yielded spirit, and I pray that it is allowing us to get closer to God every day. I pray that we have the spiritual drive to become all God has for us and to even do impossible things because we have His power flowing through us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 4-6.
