A Receptive, Discerning Heart
If God asked you what you would like for Him to give to you, what would you request from Him? I know that presents a lot of options. Some would ask for good health. I am sure others would ask for money. There would probably be a good number who would ask for someone to love them. I just have to wonder if any of us would ask for a receptive heart to judge between good and evil for the good of other people? There could be a few of us who would ask for that, but probably not many. When God asked Solomon that question that is what he requested. (I Kings 3:9) That was so pleasing to God that He gave him wisdom, as well as riches and honor. I think that gives us an insight into what we should do.
God is speaking to us all of the time. Often, we do not hear Him at all because we are not listening. Then, there are other times when our hearts are hard, so we are not receptive to His messages. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could have a receptive heart that received everything God had for us all of the time. That is His will for us, and it is ours to choose. All we have to do is to ask Him for that type of heart and obey His will to keep our hearts soft. Also, what if we wanted to have a heart to judge good and evil, so we could help other people? Wouldn't that be a great gift from God? We would be the perfect counselor to help them with their problems. We could solve very difficult challenges for other people like Solomon did after God answered his request. I hope we will all follow Solomon's lead and ask God for a receptive heart to discern between good and evil, so we can help others.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 6-8.
