The Family Redeemer
God turned Naomi and Ruth's lives around completely. They were delivered from the hopeless condition they were in when they left Moab, because God led them to their family redeemer in Bethlehem. Boaz was a close relative of Naomi, and he worked it out to buy the family land and to marry Ruth to carry on the family name. Boaz and Ruth had a son named Obed. Of course, this was Naomi's grandson. She was so glad to care for him. The other women came and saw how God had blessed her so much. They gave praise to the Lord, who supplied the family redeemer, and they asked God to make this son well known in Israel. (Ruth 4:14) The Lord did that, because Obed became the grandfather of King David, the greatest king Israel ever had. Isn't that great? It is wonderful, but it is only part of the story.
Not only did God not leave Naomi without a family redeemer; He has not left us without a Family Redeemer either. From the family of King David a child was born who was the very Son of God. He was completely God, but He was also completely man, except that He never sinned. Of course, His name was Jesus Christ. He is of our family, since He became a human, but He was able to be our Redeemer, because He is sinless God. He shed His blood and died to pay for our sins, to redeem us from our sins. Now, we can be part of His family and have a home in heaven. I pray that all of us know Jesus Christ as our personal Family Redeemer. Then, our life will be totally delivered from the hopeless state of sin, and we will be blessed to belong to God's family forever.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 1-3.
