A Fatal Mistake
We all do things that are not very smart. It is part of being human, but also, it goes along with living in sin. I like to say, "Sin makes you stupid." I know that is blunt, but it is the truth. We do things that we would never otherwise do when we are involved in sinful practices. We see this clearly in the life of Samson. He loved pagan women and he went to prostitutes. These things finally caught up with him when he met Delilah and told her the secret of his great strength. (Judges 16:17) It proved to be a fatal mistake for him, so we need to learn from his life.
We all have weaknesses. If that weakness leads us into sin, we can become addicted to many things. Samson had a serious sexual addiction, evidently. Others are addicted to shopping, gambling, eating, drugs, etc. We must admit our addiction and ask God to give us the strength to overcome our weakness and addiction. He is able, but we must be willing to go to Him and surrender to His control. If we don't, we will do dumb things to be loved or accepted by others. Samson told his secret to the woman who had set him up to be killed by the Philistines 3 times. Why would he do that? I believe it was his longing to be loved. Yes, we all need to be loved, but we need to realize that God's love meets our need for real love better than the love of any other person. If He loves us and we love Him as we should, all of our other relationships just add love on top of our satisfied hearts. Then, we do not fall into addictions and do things that bring us death, like Samson did.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 17-19.
