Exuberant Worship
King David had a very bad experience the first time he tried to bring the ark of the Lord to Jerusalem. They brought it on a cart, which was against God's commands, and Uzzah died when he had to reach out and steady the ark. However, David moved it the right way the second time by having the priests carry it in their shoulders with the poles through the rings. As the ark was coming, David was dancing before the Lord with all of his might, while he and the whole house of Israel worshiped with shouts and the sound of the ram's horn. (II Samuel 6:14,15) That is quite a bit different from our worship in most churches today, but we can learn from what they were doing.
God does not want lukewarm worship. We must worship Him in a way that shows our total joy over all that He has done for us and all that He is doing for us. He wants our worship to come from the heart, and it is even better when it reaches to our hands and feet. Then, we need to make sure we make a "joyful noise" to the Lord, so everyone will know how we feel about our Lord. Worship can be quiet when that is appropriate, but when we praise Him we need to do it with all of our might. I pray that we will all learn to pour forth our love for the Lord in an exuberant expression of our total commitment to Him and our heartfelt praise for who He is and all He has done to save us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 7-9.
