God's Purpose, Our Purpose
God was not just punishing the Egyptians to get Pharaoh to allow His people to go back to Canaan. He had a much greater purpose in doing all of the miraculous plagues on the Egyptians. He was showing His power to make His name known on the whole earth. (Exodus 9:15,16) The reason for God having this purpose is that once we know the name of the Lord, we can put our trust in Him. It is God's desire for all people to know Him and to put their trust in Him as Lord. Therefore, as we fulfill God's purpose for our lives, as believers, we will do the same thing.
God's name represents His character. One name is the "Lord." That shows He is in control of the universe He created. The name "I AM" or "YHWH" reveals that He is the eternal God, who has always been and always will be. When we put these two names together, we see that He is truly the One and Only Almighty God. He wanted the Egyptians to see this, so they would not worship the Nile river or the Pharaoh, but only believe in Him. Today, we are to show forth His power in our lives by giving testimony to others about how the Lord Jesus Christ saved us from our sins and the many times He does miraculous things in our daily lives. Then, the whole earth can come to know Him and to have salvation from their sins through trusting Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 10-13.
